Turner Classic Movies is sticking with Disney, but getting a bigger ship for its sixth annual cruise.
The 2016 TCM Classic Cruise will sail from Port Canaveral aboard Disney Fantasy for seven nights Nov. 12-19, which is longer than any of its previous cruises.
This marks the fourth time TCM has sailed with Disney, but its previous three cruises were aboard the line’s oldest ship Disney Magic. Disney Fantasy is the newest ship in Disney’s fleet and significantly larger.
Every previous TCM Cruise has sold out, so going from the 2,700-passenger Disney Magic to the 4,000-passenger Disney Fantasy makes sense while staying with the theatrical offerings Disney Cruise Line offers.
TCM hosts Robert Osborne called the original switch to Disney from its first two cruises on Celebrity Cruises a step up “because of its state-of-the-art theater and other remarkable, newly renovated facilities.”
Disney Fantasy has both the main Walt Disney Theatre with 1,340 capacity and the 399-person capacity Buena Vista Theatre as well as the giant LED Funnel Vision screen on the pool deck. The two theaters are bigger than their counterparts on Disney Magic as well.
This year’s cruise will visit two new ports of call for the classic movie cruise: San Juan, Puerto Rico and St. Maarten as well as Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay.
While the sailing is on a Disney ship, the cruise is booked through Turner Classic Movies website or by calling 877-223-7030. You have to go through tcmcruise.com where you can register for a pre-sale booking opportunity ahead of the general public on-sale date of March 11. Those registered for the pre-sale will be able to book from among a better selection of cabins ahead of March 11.
Rates range from $1,750 per person based on double occupancy for an inside stateroom to $3,660 per person for a deluxe family oceanview cabin with veranda. Lower prices for three- and four-person suites are available in many categories. That price does not include $360 per person for taxes, fees and gratuities.
The cruise plans to feature TCM hosts Robert Osborne and Ben Mankiewicz along with special guests that have yet to be announced. The 2015 cruise special guests were to be Eva Marie Saint, Louis Gossett Jr., Roger Corman, Ruta Lee, Alex Trebek, Illeana Douglas and others.
Most of the Disney-centric activities and shows on board a normal sailing are not present on the TCM Classic Cruise. Instead are screenings, Q&A sessions, trivia, karaoke and other activities geared toward fans of classic film.
