Disney Says Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Runner Collapsed and Died

A runner at the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon on Sunday at Lake Buena Vista collapsed close to the finish line and later died, said Jacquee Wahler, a spokesperson for Walt Disney World.

“We offer our sincerest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the runner during this difficult time,” Wahler said.

Disney officials did not disclose the runner’s name, age or details of the death.

The 13.1-mile race is in its eighth year and drew about 15,000 registrations. It started 5:30 a.m. at the Magic Kingdom parking lot and ended at Epcot.

I am a lifelong fan of everything Disney. My first trip to a a Disney park was to Disneyland as a child in 1970, but didn't make to Walt Disney World until I went with my wife and first child in 1990. A year doesn't go by with out at least one trip to either Disneyland or Walt Disney World. My wife and I are Disney Vacation Club members and also Charter Members of D23.
