Disney’s Dwarfs Mine Train Preview Celebrates the Last Gem in New Fantasyland’s Crown

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

From the Orlando Business Journal

Hi, ho, it’s off to work we go — literally.

The press has been invited to get a look April 30-May 2 at the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train coaster at Walt Disney World’sNew Fantasyland, set to open this spring.

It’s hard work covering theme parks, we know.

But, seriously: New attractions like the mine train are important to Orlando’s growing economy, as they help bring more visitors to local theme parks, who will spend at Central Florida businesses — including hotels, restaurants and more — helping fuel Orlando’s $50 billion tourism industry.

The ride is the last attraction of the Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland expansion — the largest expansion since the park’s opening in 1971.

There’s no official opening date for the ride just yet.

Walt Disney Bans Imports from Pakistan

From Business Standard

Walt Disney has reportedly removed Pakistan from its list of ‘Permitted Sourcing Countries’ from April 1, sources have revealed.

Following Pakistan’s failure to convince Walt Disney of its intentions to improve poor governance standards, the US licensor has banned any import from the country.

According to the Dawn, Azhar Majeed Sheikh, the chairman of Arzoo Textile Mills said that there is no ambiguity in the position taken by Disney and no shipment is permissible to any certified agent or vendor dealing in the brand of Walt Disney merchandise after April 31.

He said that anyone found violating the ban will be liable to heavy penalties besides being blacklisted.

While the US company’s decision has stripped Pakistan of 200-million dollar exports of textile products, the firm issued stiffer warning to Bangladesh when it decided to put Pakistan on its watch list because of repeated incidents of factory fires in textile garment units, the report added.

Disney Reveals First Family Pic of Girl Meets World Cast

If you’re like many people that grew up in the late 1980′s or early 1990′s, you’ll remember ABC’s TGIF and the multiple popular shows that debuted during that time (Family MattersStep by Step, etc). One of the favorite programs was Boy Meets World, a series featuring Ben Savage and Danille Fishel, which documented the trials and tribulations of growing up young in a Philadelphia neighborhood.

The series turned out to be the most watched during ABC’s TGIF slate and attracted a cult following because Disney decided to bring back a spin-off of the series late in 2013.

The show given the title Girl Meets World, will again feature Savage and Fishel, this time though as parents as they raise son Auggie and Riley.

Outside of both Savage and Fishel, little was known – even about the cast. That lead to Disney finally releasing the first cast photo which includes actors August Maturo (who plays their son) and their daughter, played by Rowan Blanchard.

In addition, Sabrina Carpenter, Corey Fogelmanis and Peyton Meyer round out the main cast members.

The show has been in production for the last few months and is set to debut on Disney at some point this Summer.

‘Frozen’ is Officially the Biggest Animated Film…Ever

Boosted by opening in the movie’s final overseas market of Japan over the weekend, Disney’s “Frozen” has just become the biggest animated film ever.

“Frozen” — which already has set sales records and won Oscars in March, ends the month by bringing its global gross total to $1.072-billion, according to box-office trackers.

The box-office record for an animated film had been held by Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story 3” (2010), which grossed $1.063-billion “Frozen” has grossed more than $398-million in North America and $674-million in international markets.

“Frozen’s” $50-million-plus box office in Japan also helped the mega-musical crack the list of Top 10 films ever (not adjusted for inflation), according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. (Next in its sights: No. 9 “The Dark Knight Rises,” at $1.084-billion.)

The “Snow Queen”-inspired 3D musical, directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, began the month by winning Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Song, for Idina Menzel’s omnipresent “Let It Go.”

On March 18, the film — on its debut day of home-video release — sold 3.2-million Blu-rays and DVDs. The previous month, “Frozen” had the biggest digital release ever.
