Land of “Frozen” Aboard Disney Cruise Line This Summer

In summer 2016, Disney Cruise Line guests can immerse themselves in the animated hit “Frozen” with exciting experiences inspired by the film, including a spectacular deck party, storybook adventures ashore, a three-song stage show production number, character meet and greets, and more.

A Day of Frozen Fun, Including New Deck Party 

On select Disney Magic and Disney Wonder sailings to Europe and Alaska, Disney Cruise Line guests are transported to the land of “Frozen” when the ship is transformed into a winter wonderland and a day of frozen fun culminates with an extravagant celebration with friends from the Kingdom of Arendelle.

On one special morning, guests will awake to discover a magical freeze has overtaken the atrium lobby with sparkling icicles adorning the grand staircase, resembling the majestic mountain-top ice palace of Queen Elsa.

Icy adventures and fun for the entire family throughout the day include all-new meet and greets and themed experiences:

  • Memorable moments with Anna, Elsa, and for the first time in forever, Kristoff and Olaf
  • “Anna’s Chocolate Chase” scavenger hunt for those who share Anna’s sense of adventure, with a special surprise for finishing the game
  • “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” activity where kids take on Elsa’s magical powers to make snow and ice
  • “Oaken’s Maypole Swirl and Twirl” for families to learn a traditional Scandinavian dance spinning and braiding giant ribbons
  • “Frozen” themed dining experience, including a menu inspired by traditional Nordic fare and special dishes inspired by the film

The evening fun kicks off with “Freezing the Night Away with Anna, Elsa and Friends,” a family-friendly interactive deck party featuring the famous royal sisters of Arendelle and their fun-loving Nordic companions. By now, the freeze has spread to the upper decks of the ship, with giant snowflakes, icicles and snow-covered rocks.

The celebration begins with a high-energy line dance, set to the movie’s ice cutting scene, featuring the arrival of Kristoff, impressively twirling his ice picks, and Princess Anna.

Anna and Kristoff’s beloved companions, Sven, the trolls and Olaf, make virtual appearances at the party. Sven engages the crowd in reindeer games like “Sven Says” and the “Troll Stroll,” and Olaf leads a sing along to his signature song, “In Summer.”

Elsa arrives with a snowy gust of wind, calling on guests to sing “Let it Go” with her as she conjures up a wintry spectacle to cool things down for Olaf. In true Disney fashion, Elsa unleashes her magic, sending a chill through everyone as the powerful Academy Award-winning song echoes from the ship.

The evening concludes with more family dancing on the pool deck, followed by fun just for adults in the nightclub featuring dance performances and frozen specialty drinks.

Adventures Ashore in Norway

Disney Cruise Line guests who travel aboard the Disney Magic to Norway, the land that inspired Arendelle from “Frozen,” have the opportunity to join exciting Port Adventures that bring this fairytale setting to life. One signature adventure ashore in Ålesund, Norway, created exclusively for Disney Cruise Line, immerses guests in the splendor and charm of Norway, with the help of Anna and Elsa, in an enchanting storybook village.

Other shore excursions take Disney Cruise Line guests to discover the breathtaking natural wonders, stunning architecture and rich Scandinavian culture depicted in the film. Seven-night voyages begin May 29, 2016, sailing through Norwegian fjords and calling on ports including Stavanger, Ålesund, Geiranger, and Bergen, Norway.

In Summer and Beyond

Adding to the excitement, offerings debuted in 2015 continue this summer and beyond.

Aboard the Disney Magic, Anna, Elsa and Olaf are part of the line up of beloved Disney characters who together teach a young girl the power of her dreams in the Disney Cruise Line original production, “Disney Dreams … An Enchanted Classic.” Scenes featuring “Frozen” characters include renditions of three popular songs: “Let it Go,” “For the First Time in Forever” and “In Summer.” The show segment is a heartfelt, humorous and memorable tribute to the “Frozen” film, preserving its endearing and playful tones with an inspiring message. Special effects are magical, with a snowfall throughout the theatre and a breathtaking transformation of the young girl’s room into her own ice palace.

On all four Disney ships, Olaf is giving warm hugs alongside Anna and Elsa. Children and families have the opportunity to meet and take photographs with their favorite “Frozen” friends on their royal tour of the Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream, Disney Wonder and Disney Magic.

Disney Announces ‘Frozen 2′

Disney officially announced plans to produce a sequel to “Frozen.”

The company revealed plans during the Walt Disney Company’s annual shareholders meeting on Thursday from San Francisco.

The first film’s directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are developing the project with producer Peter Del Vecho for Walt Disney Animation Studios, which took home the Oscar for best animated feature for the film.

A release date and production details are yet to be announced.

“Frozen” generated nearly $1.3 billion at the box office and has become a merchandising juggernaut, breaking sales records on homevideo and at Disney’s stores.

Outside of a broadway show and the animated short “Frozen Fever, “Disney has kept its “Frozen” sequel plans quiet until now.

“Frozen Fever,” which reunites the toon’s characters and song writers, will unspool in front of Disney’s live action adaptation of “Cinderella,” out in theaters this weekend.

“We enjoyed making ‘Frozen Fever’ so much and being back in that world with those characters,” Lasseter said. “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”

John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, made the announcement with Disney chief Bob Iger, and Josh Gad, who voices the character of Olaf, in “Frozen.”

The sequel doesn’t come as much of a surprise, considering how the first film continues to be a major moneymaking force for Disney’s divisions since its release Nov. 22, 2013 — and helped reinvigorate Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Hasbro Partners with Disney to Make Princess, ‘Frozen’ Dolls

Hasbro Inc. said Wednesday that it will partner with Disney Consumer Products to make Disney Princess and “Frozen” dolls, taking advantage of the blockbuster success of the animated movie.

The partnership will give Hasbro global rights, except in Japan, to make dolls of Disney characters including Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast and The Little Mermaid. Starting in 2016, Hasbro will also have rights to characters from the popular animated movie “Frozen.”

A Disney spokeswoman said Mattel currently has the rights to Frozen, but that will end in 2016 when Hasbro gets the rights.

Toy makers have struggled recently as children turn more to electronic games and consumer electronics.

But Hasbro’s girls division has been a bright spot for the company, posting strong sales on high demand for brands such as My Little Pony. In July, Hasbro said second-quarter sales in the category climbed 10% to $163.8 million.

What’s Staying and What’s Going for Frozen Summer Fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Frozen Summer Fun LIVE! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be ending on September 28th after being extended from its original early September closing date.

The event which has proven to be extremely popular with guests, so Disney will be extending some parts of the event through the fall. Here is a summary of what is staying, and what is going.

  • “For the First Time in Forever: A ‘Frozen’ Sing-Along Celebration” will be remaining, playing in the Premiere Theater on the Streets of America. The number of shows per day vary, up to a maximum of 10. There is some speculation that the show will ultimately move to the American Idol location, but this has not yet been confirmed.
  • Wandering Oaken’s merchandise location and play area will move to the former American Film Institute Showcase, located at the exit of the Studio Backlot Tour. There will be no ice skating, but the real snow playground and Frozen merchandise will continue to be available.

The Royal Procession mini-parade, the Frozen Fireworks show, and the Ice Skating will be coming to a close on September 28th.

Along with the extension to Frozen at the Studios, also look for Frozen characters to appear at the Magic Kingdom for the holidays. Anna and Elsa will be appearing in the Once Upon a Christmastime Parade and a new castle lighting ceremony which replaces Cinderella’s Holiday Wish.

When Disneyland began hosting daily meet-and-greets with princesses Anna and Elsa from the 2013 film “Frozen,” patrons formed lines with wait times regularly exceeding two hours.

It was unprecedented, even by Disneyland’s standards.

To shorten those waits, Disney recently introduced what it calls a “virtual queue” system not unlike the Fastpass system that the theme park uses for its busiest attractions.

The system is still a work in progress, Disney spokesman John McClintock said, but two weeks in, it has reduced wait times substantially.

“It’s a lot better this way,” said Matthew Eberle, 25, of Anaheim. “I’ve been here before, waited in lines as long as five hours. I first came out around the time the movie was released (in November), and was surprised by how many people were willing to wait around for so long.”

The virtual queue is first-come, first-serve. Unlike the Fastpass system, there is no stand-by line for guests without return tickets.

Return tickets are distributed near the attraction at the beginning of the day, and to receive one, patrons are required to show their admission ticket or annual pass. Guests can collect return tickets for family members and/or friends only if each patron’s admission ticket or annual pass is provided.

Return tickets are issued, at no additional cost, until no more remain. At this point in the queue’s infancy, 18 to 20 return tickets are distributed per return time. The “Frozen” room typically closes around 8 p.m.

“If this is something guests really want to do, we suggest them coming early to get their return ticket first before visiting other attractions,” McClintock said. “We’re still adjusting, and we’ll be doing so for the foreseeable future.”

Windows for return tickets are each 20 minutes, and when guests return, they must present their return tickets and admission passes. Return tickets cannot be given to other patrons. Guests then stand in line until it is their turn to enter the room; on Friday morning, the line ranged from being empty to perhaps a 20-minute wait.

In February, a Register story detailed how guests endured two-hour waits or longer and said how the meet-and-greet, which originally was supposed to close shortly after the film’s release, was extended indefinitely.

Once inside the log-cabin-style house, guests have however long they want to take pictures, exchange autographs and interact with the characters. One group is permitted inside the house at a time, and groups typically leave after five to 10 minutes.

On Friday, McClintock said there was no announcement made by Disney introducing the virtual queue to pass-holders and regular guests.

Word of the new system spread through blogs and guests’ word of mouth, McClintock said. Isaac Pierce, 27, of Anaheim said Friday that he and his friends waited about 45 minutes to receive their return tickets.

“It’s easy, and it frees you up to do other things,” Brent Buchanan of New Zealand said. “And it frees kids up from having to stand in line.”

Disney Replacing Epcot’s Maelstrom with Frozen Attraction

When Walt Disney promised that Disneyland would never be completed, so long as there is imagination left in the world, he made a promise to our guests that we take seriously at all our locations around the world. This year, one particular product of imagination — Disney Animation’s blockbuster hit “Frozen” — captured the hearts and minds of people around the world and gave us a new opportunity to make good on Walt’s pledge.

We’ve made “Frozen” a part of the guest experience in a number of ways already and our guests have both loved them and asked for more. So I’m pleased to say that we’re starting construction at Walt Disney World Resort on a brand new “Frozen” attraction at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot. The new attraction, which replaces Maelstrom, will take our guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film. The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa can meet our guests. We think these “Frozen” elements are great compliments to the Norway Pavilion, which showcases the country and region that inspired the film.

“Frozen’s” popular characters will also have a bigger presence at Magic Kingdom Park this holiday season. In addition to the ongoing character appearances, Queen Elsa will use her powers to transform Cinderella Castle into an ice palace every night starting in early November. And Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party-goers can see Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf in “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.”

We’re extending some favorite elements of Frozen Summer Fun LIVE!, too, so that guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios can continue singing along to “Frozen” songs with Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. Wandering Oaken’s will set up shop closer to the show through the holiday season and will feature a larger play area with real snow (in Florida!).

From the moment we screened the film several months before its release, we were inspired by the possibility of bringing this great story to life for our guests. Frozen Summer Fun LIVE! has been extremely popular, and now we’re looking forward to doing even more to allow our guests to experience the “Frozen” phenomenon.

Frozen Sing-Along Celebration to be Available on FastPass+

‘For The First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration’ will join the ranks of FastPass+ attractions starting September 2nd at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The popular show takes place inside the Premiere Theater and had previously used a paper-ticketed return standby system, but it will now be available on FastPass+ via My Disney Experience starting September 2nd. The Frozen Sing-Along joins the FastPass+ ranks as a Tier 2 grouped attraction.

Princess Anna and Queen Elsa join the Royal Historians of Arendelle for a retelling of the history of their kingdom amidst projections, lighting and special effects. Guests are invited to join in special sing-along moments from the film’s soundtrack. The 20-minute show will be presented multiple times each day.

Disney to Release Frozen Themed iPhone Cases and MagicBands

Disney will be releasing a new D-Tech on Demand cases for iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5/5S on Saturday at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This artwork will also be added to the D-Tech on Demand boutique inside the recently opened Marketplace Co-Op in Downtown Disney Marketplace. The Marketplace Co-Op location will have a few designs not found anywhere else, while the “Frozen Summer Fun” design will only be found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Next week Disney will release three open edition, retail MagicBands at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with pre-printed images of Elsa, Anna and Olaf. As with all retail MagicBand purchases, guests must present one of the following for the MagicBand to be linked to at the time of purchase: valid theme park admission, Memory Maker card or another MagicBand. These items will not be available for purchase online or via Merchandise Guest Services.

‘Frozen’ Experiences Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios This Summer

Like Olaf, have you ever closed your eyes and imagined yourself in another place? In summer, maybe? At Walt Disney World Resort? Or perhaps in the snow-covered kingdom of Arendelle, from Disney’s instant classic, “Frozen.” Why not all three?! After all, the hot and the cold are both so intense, if you put them together it just makes sense! And that’s just what we’re doing as part of an incredible new experience.

This summer, the world of “Frozen” takes center stage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We’re opening up the gates July 5 for a summer-long happening, featuring a full day of all-new, immersive “Frozen” experiences you won’t want to miss, every day through September 1!

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Anna’s & Elsa’s Royal Welcome: Each day at 11 a.m., Anna and Elsa, riding in a horse-drawn sleigh, will travel in a royal procession down Hollywood Boulevard. Rugged mountain man Kristoff is along for the fun joined by a flurry of skaters, skiers and ice cutters, all dressed in their Arendelle best.
  • For The First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration: Inside the park’s Premiere Theater, Princess Anna and Queen Elsa join the Royal Historians of Arendelle for a fun and comedic retelling of the history of their kingdom amidst projections, lighting and special effects. Guests will be invited to join in special sing-along moments from the film’s chart-topping soundtrack. At the end of the performance, guests might find themselves becoming “Honorary Citizens of Arendelle.” The 20-minute show will be presented multiple times each day.
  • Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post & Frozen Funland: There’s a “big summer blowout” happening inside the park’s Soundstage One, where Oaken – the film’s trading post owner – and his cousins have created the “Frozen Funland” amidst a winter wonderland. Living up to its name, there will be plenty of frozen festivities inside the makeshift adventure park Oaken and his cousins built to make the most of the sudden snowstorm. Part of the Oaken’s Frozen Funland will be an ice skating rink with demonstrations by some of Oaken’s talented cousins on the Arendelle ice.

    In addition, icy artisans will put their talents on display, creating carvings of favorite “Frozen” characters from giant frozen blocks. Kids can enjoy frozen wintertime activities in the “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” area. For all of his Frozen Funland friends, Oaken has plenty of merchandise at his Trading Post, along with hot cocoa and sweet treats available for purchase.

    Guests can take pictures with the film’s animated characters in a virtual setting, and then email them or share on their social media channels.

    When guests want to escape the icy atmosphere of Oaken’s outpost, all they have to do is look for the door marked “Sauna,” where they once again will exit to the warm Florida sun.

  • Coolest Summer Ever Dance Party: From 5:30-9:30 p.m. each evening, a live band will take the stage to celebrate the Frozen summer fun with contemporary songs and a few familiar tunes from the film.
  • Take-Along Olaf: As a special feature before the fireworks, guests will have a chance to be a part of a pre-show celebration by hashtagging photos of themselves in the park with a “Take-Along Olaf.” Throughout the day, Take-Along Olafs will be distributed at various locations in the park. Guests are then invited to take Olaf along with them on their Disney’s Hollywood Studios adventures. By sharing their photos with the unique hashtag #OlafSummerVacation, their photos may appear on the big screen in this special pre-show feature.
  • Frozen Fireworks: At 9:45pm each evening, the giant Sorcerer Mickey Hat on Hollywood Blvd. gets the full Frozen treatment with special projections of snow and ice images, in an eye-popping spectacular above Hollywood Blvd. Set to the film’s soundtrack, the fireworks show will feature some special guests – including a very magical appearance from Elsa in which she will show how her powers flurry “through the air and to the ground” to produce magically icy blue and white gleaming fireworks.

If you’re somewhere in that zone, like me, you’re already bursting with anticipation for “Frozen Summer Fun – Live at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.” Starting July 5, the sky will be blue, and you guys will be there, too! It’s going to be a great summer for snowmen, royalty, and anyone who’s a fan of “Frozen!”

 

Walt Disney World Extends Frozen’s Anna and Elsa Meet & Greet Times at Princess Fairytale Hall

The immensely  popular Magic Kingdom Frozen meet and greet with Anna and Elsa will be getting extended hours.

Beginning June 1 2014, the Frozen meet and greet at Princess Fairytale Hall will operate from park opening to park close. FastPass+ availability will also be expanded with the new operating hours.

Previously, the Frozen meet and greet closed in the early evening. With the new hours, Snow White will meet guests in the Town Square Courtyard.
