Walt Disney World Updates Reservations, Suspends FastPass+ and Extra Magic Hours

Thursday evening Walt Disney World announced more details on its plans to reopen the resort beginning on July 11th.

The big take is that Disney announced that FastPass+ will be suspended, along with Extra Magic Hours.

Effective Thursday Disney will be cancelling all dining reservations, experience bookings, Disney dining plan and FastPass+ selections. Disney also stated that guests with existing Resort reservations will have priority access to the new park reservation system when it becomes available. Also, guests who had existing reservations will receive priority access to rebook reservations when reservations for dining and other experiences resume.

Guests who purchased a Disney dining plan and tickets for dates between May 28, 2020 and September 26, 2021 will receive an automatic cancellation and refund of their Disney dining plan.

Guests who booked Resort hotel reservations with a Free Dining package for dates between May 28, 2020 and September 26, 2021 will receive an automatic cancellation of their Disney dining plan and are invited to rebook their vacation for a later date with a 35% room discount.

The details of the release are below –

  • New Ticket Sales and Hotel Reservations: At this time, we are temporarily pausing new ticket sales and Disney Resort hotel reservations so we can focus on guests with existing tickets and reservations. Existing ticket holders and Annual Passholders will be able to make a theme park reservation before new tickets are sold; we will be reaching out to these guests soon to provide additional details. We will resume new sales of tickets and Disney Resort hotel reservations after that period of time. Theme park reservations will be limited due to attendance limitations and will be subject to availability.

  • Dining and Experiences: In order to foster physical distancing during this time, upon reopening, our offerings, restaurants and other experiences such as behind-the-scenes tours will be limited in capacity, and other experiences may remain closed. As a result of limited capacity, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all existing dining reservations and experience bookings, including Disney dining plans included in packages. We will reopen dining and experience bookings with more limited numbers closer to when the parks reopen. We will also shift from a 180-day booking window to a 60-day booking window for dining and experience bookings going forward to allow Guests to make their plans closer to their visits.

  • FastPass+ and Extra Magic Hours: As a result of the COVID-19 impact, the FastPass+ service will be suspended for the time being as we plan to use additional queue space to manage capacity at our attractions and maintain physical distancing. We will automatically cancel existing FastPass+ selections and share any future updates on the service at a later date. Also, please note that upon reopening, Extra Magic Hours will be temporarily suspended.

Walt Disney World Makes Changes to Dining Plans for 2017

Disney has announced details for the 2017 Disney Dining Plans!

Just a reminder that to be eligible to participate in the Disney Dining Plan, you need to book a Walt Disney World Vacation Package that includes your stay at a participating Disney World Resort and base Park Admission tickets for everyone in your traveling party.

Let’s take a look a look at the new plans:

2017 Disney Dining Plans

Entitlements for the 2017 Quick Service Dining Plan include the following for each guest (ages 3 and over) per night of your package stay:

  • Two Quick Service Meals (includes one entree and one non-alcoholic beverage)
  • Two Snacks
  • One Refillable Resort Mug

Entitlements for the 2017 Standard Dining Plan include the following for each guest (ages 3 and over) per night of your package stay:

  • One Table Service Meal (includes one entree, one non-alcoholic beverage, and one dessert OR one full buffet)
  • One Quick Service Meal (includes one entree and one non-alcoholic beverage)

The biggest change confirms a rumor that surfaced when the 2017 Free Dining Promotion was released for United Kingdom residents. Disney Increases the Prices of Dining Plans

Walt Disney World has increased the prices for the Disney Dining plan.  The increases are about 3% for adults and 9% for children.

The new prices are:

Quick-Service Dining Plans:

$44.13 per night for adults

$19.04 for children

Regular Dining Plans:

$63.70 per night for adults

$22.85 for kids

Deluxe Dining Plans:

$115.08 per night for adults

$35.49 for children.

The prices changes do not affect people who have already booked their plans.

The dining plan is available to Walt Disney World guests staying on property and is seen as a way to save money on meals. The quick-service and regular dining plans each provide two meals, a snack and a refillable mug. The deluxe dining plans provide three meals and two snacks.

Deluxe Disney Dining Plan for 2016 Does Not Include Appetizers

Disney-Dining-Plan

Disney has recently released the brochures for the 2016 Disney Dining Plans. There is a notable change in that appetizers are no longer included as part of the Deluxe Dining Plan.

Previously, the Deluxe Dining Plan has given guests dining at table service restaurants an Appetizer, Entrée, Dessert and Non-Alcoholic Beverage.

The brochure for 2016 lists only an Entrée, Dessert, and Non-Alcoholic Beverage for table service dining.

Traditionally, the Disney Dining Plan undergoes a number of revisions prior to it taking effect, but that is typically relating to which restaurants will be included, in particular the non-Disney operated locations. We’ll monitor the situation for any further updates over the coming months.

New Changes to the Disney Dining Plan Aim to Add More flexibility

Disney-Dining-Plan

Beginning on May 31st, Disney introduced a number of enhancements to the Disney Dining Plan with the aim of increasing the flexibility and usability of the popular inclusive meal plan.

The changes apply to most Disney operated locations throughout Walt Disney World, and include an expanded range of snack offerings, more flexible substitutions, and changes to the way adult and child entitlements can be used.

Here is a run-down of the changes and how you can use them.

Snacks

The snack entitlement has been updated to now include:

  • All items that are marked on the menu as snack eligible, including those that cost more than $5.
  • All single serve non-alcoholic beverages not served in a souvenir container.
  • All ice cream novelties.
  • All hand-scooped ice cream not served in a souvenir container.
  • All quick service menu side dishes.
  • Fresh popped popcorn (pre-bagged popcorn is not available as a snack item).
  • At breakfast, the following are considered snacks:
Cereal with milk (including Create Your Own)
    French toast sticks
Oatmeal or quinoa (including Create Your Own)
    Grits
    Side of bacon
    Side of sausage
    Side of eggs
    Side of potatoes
    Biscuits and gravy
    Hard-boiled eggs

Table Service Restaurants

  • There is no longer a restriction on the number of entitlements that can be used at a meal. Eg. A group of 2 guests on the Disney Dining Plan could use 1 additional entitlement for a guest in that party – making a total of 3 entitlements used for the group of 3 diners.
  • If using the Deluxe, Premium and Platinum Plans, child meal entitlements can be used to choose adult entrees.
  • At some locations, a dessert may be substituted for a side salad, soup or fruit plate if available.

Quick Service Restaurants

  • A dessert or beverage from the Quick Service Meal entitlement can be substituted for any snack item on the menu within the same order.
  • A Quick Service Meal can be substituted for 3 snack eligible items within the same order.
  • At Quick Service locations, child meal entitlements can be used for an adult meal.

Disney Dining Plan At Walt Disney World Rumored to be Getting Big Changes

Disney Dining - Donald

The Disney Dining Plan is popular with many guests visiting Walt Disney World, and there are different levels that are right for them.  Now, there are rumored changes coming to the Disney Dining Plan, and it could happen very soon.

Details for the 2015 Disney Dining Plan (DDP) were already revealed by Disney many months ago, but as many fans know, changes are always possible. Disney is rumored to be looking to improve the DDP and will be putting in these changes in as soon as May 31, 2015.

With these changes, guests would have more flexibility and choices in using their dining credits (entitlements) in numerous food & beverage locations along with merchandise locations.

The following are rumored to be included as of May 31, 2015, as eligible Snack entitlements for Guests with DDP:

  • All single-serve non-alcoholic beverages that are not in a souvenir container (single serve is equal to or less than one liter and excluding beverages sold at recreation counters);
  • All ice cream novelties;
  • All hand-scooped ice cream offerings, including sundaes that do not exceed two (2) scoops or are not served in souvenir container;
  • Additional items considered single-serve previously excluded are now included, such as Caramel or Candy Apple (with or without peanuts, excludes character-inspired apples),
  • large Mickey Cookie,
  • Tin Mints (1.5 oz), fresh-popped, scooped popcorn (only applies to Big Top Souvenir and Karamell-Kuchelocations).
  • Note: Pre-bagged popcorn of any kind is no longer included in the Dining Plan.

MEAL ENTITLEMENT CONVERSION

Effective May 31 at quick service restaurants and select merchandise locations (listed below), Guests may substitute one Meal entitlement for up to three (3) eligible Snack plan items within the same transaction.

Example 1: Guest chooses to substitute one (1) QSR Meal entitlement for an apple, bottle of soda, and bag of potato chips (within the same transaction).

Example 2: Guest chooses to substitute one (1) DDP Table-service Meal entitlement for three candy bars (within the same transaction).

Resort locations where the meal entitlement conversion will be available starting May 31, 2015:

  • Artist’s Palette
  • BayView Gifts
  • Beach Club Market Place
  • Calypso Trading Co.
  • Conch Flat
  • Donald’s Double Feature
  • Dundy’s Sundries
  • Everything Pop
  • Fittings and Fairings
  • Fulton’s General Store
  • Ink and Paint
  • Jackson Square
  • Johari Treasures
  • M. Mouse Mercantile
  • Maestro Mickey
  • Moana Mercantile
  • On the Boardwalk
  • Panchito’s Gifts and Sundries
  • Sandy Cove
  • Seashore Sweets
  • Settlement Trading Post
  • Sport Goofy Gifts and sundries
  • Wilderness Mercantile
  • Zawadi Marketplace

Park locations where the meal entitlement conversion will be available starting May 31, 2015:

  • Big Top Souvenir (Magic Kingdom)
  • Confectionary (Magic Kingdom)
  • Prairie Outpost (Magic Kingdom)
  • Karamell-Küche (Epcot)
  • Beverly Sunset(Disney’s Hollywood Studios)
  • Writer’s Stop (Disney’s Hollywood Studios)
  • Mombasa Marketplace (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
  • Candy Cauldron (Downtown Disney)
  • Goofy’s Candy Co. (Downtown Disney)

There are a number of these changes that would make many long-known things about the Disney Dining Plan altered.

  1. Snacks are no longer looked at as merely being most things under $5. If it has a “DDP” icon next to it, then it will be a snack under the new rumored guidelines.
  2. Exchanging of meal (Quick-Service or Table) credits may be done for considered Snacks on the DDP all in one transaction.
  3. Pre-bagged Kettle Korn is no longer considered a Snack option on the DDP.
  4. Trading Snack credits for Meal credits is still not allowed.

Of course, until Disney officially announces anything, rumors are simply that.
