Magic Kingdom Moving Security Screening Areas on April 3rd

There have been rumors for a while now that the Magic Kingdom would be moving its security screening areas away from the park entrance.  Several websites and guests have seen work being done preparing for the change, indicating that the change was imminent.  According to multiple sources Walt Disney World announced that the new screening procedures will go into effect this coming Monday, April 3rd.

According to Disney, guests taking busses and watercraft will be screened at new checkpoints in front of the park. Guests at the Transportation and Ticket Center will be screened after departing from the parking tram, but before boarding the monorail or ferryboat to the park. Additional screening points are being added before monorail boarding at the Magic Kingdom area resorts.

Disneyland Resort Moves Security Checkpoint for Downtown Disney

Disney is moving one of its security checkpoints so that Downtown Disney is pulled inside its secured area.

The move was expected to be completed by year’s end.

“We are moving the location of our bag-check and metal detectors to the point where guests enter our property through Downtown Disney and the Mickey & Friends parking structure,” a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman said.

Guests would be checked as soon as they left the Mickey & Friends parking structure before boarding the tram toward Downtown Disney.

Two other checkpoints are set to be added: one of them will be between ESPN Zone and Rainforest Cafe and the other between ESPN Zone and Earl of Sandwich restaurant. Officials said these would likely service guests coming from the hotels.

Officials hope the change will make it easier for guests: They could leave Disneyland or Disney California Adventure for Downtown Disney, a shopping and restaurant district, and return to one of the parks without going through a checkpoint for a second time.

Guests can already pass from one park to the other without going through a checkpoint.

The checkpoint on the east side of the parks, near the Harbor Boulevard entrance, is not moving for now.

WDW Metal detector Operations Transferred to Disney Security

WDW Park Metal Detectors

A little over a month ago Disney suddenly introduced metal detectors at the parks ahead of the busy holiday season.  It appears now that their operation is transferring over to Disney Security.

Originally a private security firm called CSC was handling the operation of the metal detectors and screening of guests. Beginning with Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the detectors will now be operated by Disney’s own in-house security Cast Members.
