Walt Disney World Scales Back Epcot Food and Wine Late Nights Live

2011 EPCOT INTERNATIONAL FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL

From the Orlando Sentinel

Walt Disney World has scaled back one of its newest events, Epcot Food and Wine Late Nights Live.

The $79 three-hour party during the Food & Wine Festival that starts this week was originally scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays. Disney has cut it back to just Thursdays.

Disney would not give a reason. Lackluster demand was likely to blame, said Duncan Dickson, a former Disney executive who now teaches at the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management.

The event comes at a slower time of the year, it’s late at night on a weekday and “it’s not a cheap ticket,” Dickson said. “I think the number of people in town willing to spend those kind of dollars just isn’t there.”

Disney this year has introduced several late-night parties and premium packages, which experts say are a way to boost the bottom line without increasing the price of general admission tickets.

The new events include a $99 dessert party during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and “Villains Unleashed!,” a one-night party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

‘Epcot Food and Wine Late Nights LIVE!’ will be the latest after hours premium event coming to Walt Disney World in this year.

This after hours street party will take place each Tuesday and Thursday and it will cost $79 plus tax, which includes admission into the park from 9:45pm to 1am.

For your $79, you can expect to sample six dishes from several of the Food and Wine Marketplace Kiosks, and take in entertainment with a live DJ and musical performances.

The street party will be held between the United Kingdom and World Showcase Plaza, starting on September 23, 2014.
