From the Orlando Sentinel –
Walt Disney World has scaled back one of its newest events, Epcot Food and Wine Late Nights Live.
The $79 three-hour party during the Food & Wine Festival that starts this week was originally scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays. Disney has cut it back to just Thursdays.
Disney would not give a reason. Lackluster demand was likely to blame, said Duncan Dickson, a former Disney executive who now teaches at the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management.
The event comes at a slower time of the year, it’s late at night on a weekday and “it’s not a cheap ticket,” Dickson said. “I think the number of people in town willing to spend those kind of dollars just isn’t there.”
Disney this year has introduced several late-night parties and premium packages, which experts say are a way to boost the bottom line without increasing the price of general admission tickets.
The new events include a $99 dessert party during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and “Villains Unleashed!,” a one-night party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
