Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom Closing for Most of January 2018 for Another Refurbishment

Disney has scheduled Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom for another refurbishment early next year.

The refurbishment is scheduled to begin on January 8 and last through February 1, with a reopening to guests on February 2nd next year.

Currently Splash Mountain is nearing the end of a major refurbishment, which began on August 28th and lasting through November 16th.

The January refurbishment has been rumored for some time. The closure seems to have been confirmed because Disney has now begun cancelling FP+ selections during that time frame.

Pirates of the Caribbean in Walt Disney World Closing in February for New Auction Scene Installation

Pirates of the Caribbean will be closing this coming February for a three week refurbishment that is expected to see the introduction of the new auction scene.

The refurbishment is scheduled to begin February 26th and last through March 18th and  reopening to guests on March 19th.

Disney has previously announced that the iconic auction scene will see the redhead play a new role, joining the pirate ranks and overseeing the pirate auction of the townspeople’s valuables.

A similar scene opened at Disneyland Paris this past summer, and the change will come to both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort in 2018.

Pirates of the Caribbean last saw a major change with the introduction of characters and elements from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise back in 2006.

Houston Astros are ‘Going to Disney World’ for World Series Victory Parade

World Series MVP George Springer along with teammates Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa will be honored with a historic victory parade down Main Street, U.S.A., at Magic Kingdom on Saturday November 4th.

The parade is scheduled to take place at 12:45 PM.

The Astros captured the championship with a 5-1 win in the deciding Game 7 in Los Angeles to take the best-of-seven-game series. The World Series title is the team’s first in its 56-year history.

Springer, Altuve and Correa will celebrate with Mickey Mouse and friends, plus thousands of cheering fans who are expected to line the parade route. The players will likely also soak it all in by experiencing some of the park’s signature attractions and entertainment with their families and friends.

This Astros parade is another magical installment in the Disney Parks tradition of celebrating the biggest achievements in sports, from professional football to basketball to hockey and beyond. And they join players from the Boston Red Sox (2004) and the Chicago Cubs (2016) who have celebrated their team’s monumental achievements with parades at Walt Disney World Resort.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Now Sold Out for October 31st

WDWMagic is reporting that Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is now sold out for October 31st.

The price increases over the last few years appear to be having their intended effect.  It is taking much longer than normal for this year’s first sold out night. October 31 is typically first to sell out, and it usually happens much sooner than it did this year.

Currently all other dates remain available.

Disney Announces ‘Disney After Hours’ Dates for 2018

Last year, the Disney After Hours ticketed event nights debuted at Magic Kingdom Park and delighted guests with quick access to some of the park’s most popular attractions and character greetings. We’re happy to share today that Disney After Hours events will return for select dates in January, February and March 2018.

If you’re new to Disney After Hours, an event night is limited to a small number of guests, allowing attendees to maximize their time in the park with little to no wait at 25 attractions and experiences, like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid, Space Mountain and many more. The Disney After Hours ticket allows park entry as early as 7 p.m., which gives attendees time to enjoy the park’s nightly “Happily Ever After” fireworks, and then remain in the park until 11 p.m. and some nights to 12:00 a.m.

Disney After Hours event nights are currently set for January 19, 26, and 30, February 8 and 15, March 1 and 8. (Please note that Disney After Hours does not replace Extra Magic Hours (EMH) for our resort guests and are instead held on non-EMH dates.)

Jungle Cruise Remains Closed due to Hurricane Irma Clean Up

While Magic Kingdom re-opened yesterday following two days of closure for Hurricane Irma, the Jungle Cruise attraction remains closed at this time.

While the majority of the park is in good shape following the hurricane, the high winds caused considerable damage to the Jungle Cruise landscaping.  Disney is saying more time is needed to get the ride ready for guests.

The park schedule currently shows the ride will remain closed through September 17th, but this may change.

Walt Disney World to Re-Open Theme Parks on Tuesday

At approximately 3:30 PM EDT today, the official website of Walt Disney World updated their park operating hours and revealed that they would be re-opening the parks on Tuesday, September 12th. However, not all of the parks are going to open back up on Tuesday.  This is due to some cast members who evacuated due to the storm and Disney being a little short-staffed.

Both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach will remain closed at least until Wednesday before reopening.

At this time the hours of operation for Walt Disney World tomorrow will be:

  • Magic Kingdom: 9 AM – 7 PM with Extra Magic Hours of 8 AM – 9 AM; Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will take place from 7 PM – Midnight
  • Epcot: 9 AM – 9 PM with Extra Magic Hours of 9 PM – 11 PM
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 9 AM – 9 PM
