Mark Hamill gave Star Wars fans the thrill of a lifetime.
In celebration of the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi (in theaters Dec. 15), Hamill visited Disneyland Tuesday to surprise some unsuspecting guests. The actor’s destination: Star Tours in Tomorrowland. “The Captain did mention something about a special passenger,” a Disneyland cast member began. “Oh, and the Force is strong with this one. So, let me go and…”
Enter Hamill, who simply walked in and said, “Hello, everyone!”
As fans cheered and pulled out their iPhones to capture the moment, Hamill mimed an applause meter. “Now, wait a minute!” he said. “There’s no Star Wars fans here, are there?”
Hamill didn’t come dressed in Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Robes, similar to when Johnny Depp dressed up as Jack Sparrow to surprise fans on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in April. And unlike the cast of Descendants 2, he didn’t attempt to go incognito inside the park, either.
Instead, Hamill came as he was—and that was more than enough. “I am so happy to be here at Disneyland with you today,” he said. “The first time I came here, I was a little kid, and I used to daydream about someday working at Disney—so, thank you for making my dream come true.”

Hamill took a selfie with the group before joining them for the ride.
During Star Wars Celebration in Orlando last week, Star Wars fans got their first look at the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Fans attending a special panel discussion entitled Star Wars and Disney Parks: A Galaxy in the Making also learned that a new destination will be coming to Star Tours – The Adventures Continue at Disneyland park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios later this year featuring some of the iconic actions and locations showcased in the trailer!
This new Star Tours adventure, first announced by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek last fall, will take guests to the planet of Crait in the middle of an epic battle … and it’s like nothing that frequent Starspeeder travelers have ever seen!
During a D23: Destination D presentation today, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek shared that, for the first time, Disney is adding a new adventure to the Star Tours – the Adventure Continues attraction. The new mission will be added to the attractions at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm teams are currently in production to add an exciting new mission to the attraction based on elements from Star Wars Episode 8.
Star Wars Episode 8 will be the second installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy following Star Wars: The Force Awakens, due for release in December 2017.
Walt Disney Imagineering has also released its first piece of concept art showing Star Wars Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
As you can see, the land will take on a whole new dimension after dark and feature adventures and surprises around each corner. The image reveals a peek at what guests will discover in this all-new land located in the southwest corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including one of the signature attractions that lets you take the controls of the Millennium Falcon.
Imaginer Scott Trowbridge just took to the stage at D23 Expo 2015 to announce a number of new Star Tours experiences coming to the parks.
Later this year, Star Tours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be updated to feature characters and destinations from the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
