Typhoon Lagoon to Re-Open Next Week

Walt Disney World has confirmed that it’s Typhoon Lagoon water park is scheduled to re-open January 2nd.

Blizzard Beach was expected to close on December 26th for its annual refurbishment. This was pushed back to January 2nd in order to give Disney an operational water park prior to the re-opening of Typhoon Lagoon.

Disney had originally planned to re-open Typhoon Lagoon in late December, but delays to the refurbishment pushed that slightly back.

Typhoon Lagoon will also re-start Surf Programs, including the Learn to Surf and Private Surf Bookings. Guest can make bookings now.

Typhoon Lagoon’s Shark Reef to Close Permanently in October

The Shark Reef snorkeling attraction at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon will be permanently closing on October 2nd.

The Shark Reef gives guests the opportunity to snorkel through a sunken ship in a saltwater pool, complete with sharks and tropical fish.

There is an underwater observation area is available for those who want to view without getting wet.

The park will be opening Miss Fortune Falls, which is a new family raft ride in another area of the park in 2017.

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort to Discontinue Bus Service to Disney Springs

There will be a number of changes to the bus service for Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort beginning August 29th.

Bus service to Disney Springs is being discontinued, with guests being able to choose to take the Sassagoula River Cruise water taxi from the boat dock, or take the walkway from Congress Park.

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort will also have a new internal bus service.  Starting next week, a dedicated bus will run internally, stopping at the eight bus stops approximately every 20 minutes.

A new route will also run directly from the Congress Park stop to the Typhoon Lagoon water park.

New ‘Miss Fortune Falls’ Attraction Coming to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon in March 2017

A brand new attraction called Miss Fortune Falls is coming to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon in spring of 2017!

Miss Fortune Falls will be a family-style raft attraction that takes guests on a splashing journey through the fabled Captain Mary Oceanear’s past. Legend has it that Captain Oceanear, a treasure-hunting heroine, travelled across the sea collecting unique artifacts before she became stranded at Typhoon Lagoon many years ago by a rogue storm.

Onboard treasure rafts, guests will ascend to the top of the attraction before plunging into a white-water adventure where they will be able to spot some of the treasures Captain Oceanear gathered from around the world.

With a ride time of two minutes, Miss Fortune Falls will be among the lengthiest attractions at both Disney Water Parks.

Walt Disney World Planning Typhoon Lagoon Expansion

Walt Disney World’s Typhoon Lagoon water park looks to be gearing up for an expansion on 2.28 acres of land just north of the existing park boundaries.

Plans include the “construction of new guest areas, including a water feature. Sidewalks and landscaped areas will be provided for guest access,” according to state records. “The project under consideration is a new family raft ride that is to be located west of the Crush N Gusher ride,” said an engineering document included with the plans.

Typhoon Lagoon Plans

Other details indicate the water ride would include an “elevated flume/track” and be supported by columns. Geographically, the new addition would be located at the northern-most portion of the park, which is currently just backstage operations space.

There’s no clear timeline included with the documents, but it’s possible the attraction would be ready sometime in 2017. This upcoming summer season may be too soon, and the water parks generally begin to pull back on operations as the winter months near.

Disney Grad Nites Returning to Walt Disney World in 2017

Walt Disney World has announced that Grad Nites are returning in 2017 with Disney Grad Nite H2O.

In 2017, Disney Grad Nite H2O will be held at Typhoon Lagoon water park on Friday nights in April. Along with the park’s attractions, the ticketed event will also include characters, DJ’s, dance parties and food & beverages.

Tickets will cost $55 plus tax, and must be booked through a participating school. Registration for schools will soon be available at Disneygradnite.com.

Disney had previously tried hosting Grad Nites outside of the Magic Kingdom, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2009, before returning them to the Magic Kingdom, where they were eventually discontinued  in 2011

Disney and Havaianas Announce Strategic Alliance

Havaianas

Disney and Brazilian flip-flop creators Havaianas have announced a new strategic alliance that will see dedicated Havaianas retail stores open at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort theme parks.

“We are thrilled to have entered into this relationship with the Walt Disney World Resort, the Disneyland Resort and Disney Vacation Club because they embody instant joy much like Havaianas,” said Marcio Moura, Havaianas’ USA President. “We look forward to creating a harmonious relationship and further expanding opportunities within the Walt Disney World Resort, the Disneyland Resort and Disney Vacation Club in the coming years.”

The alliance will make Havaianas the official Flip-Flop of Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort, Disney Vacation Club, and later in the fall, Havaianas will become a sponsor of runDisney races.

Disney and Havaianas have worked together over the past four years creating Disney-themed flip-flops.  This new agreement will see dedicated retail stores open inside Disney’s theme parks, including the Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water parks and Disney California Adventure. In addition, 22 existing stores through the parks will carry the Havaianas flip-flops.
