Disneyland Resort Moves Security Checkpoint for Downtown Disney

Disney is moving one of its security checkpoints so that Downtown Disney is pulled inside its secured area.

The move was expected to be completed by year’s end.

“We are moving the location of our bag-check and metal detectors to the point where guests enter our property through Downtown Disney and the Mickey & Friends parking structure,” a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman said.

Guests would be checked as soon as they left the Mickey & Friends parking structure before boarding the tram toward Downtown Disney.

Two other checkpoints are set to be added: one of them will be between ESPN Zone and Rainforest Cafe and the other between ESPN Zone and Earl of Sandwich restaurant. Officials said these would likely service guests coming from the hotels.

Officials hope the change will make it easier for guests: They could leave Disneyland or Disney California Adventure for Downtown Disney, a shopping and restaurant district, and return to one of the parks without going through a checkpoint for a second time.

Guests can already pass from one park to the other without going through a checkpoint.

The checkpoint on the east side of the parks, near the Harbor Boulevard entrance, is not moving for now.

I am a lifelong fan of everything Disney. My first trip to a a Disney park was to Disneyland as a child in 1970, but didn't make to Walt Disney World until I went with my wife and first child in 1990. A year doesn't go by with out at least one trip to either Disneyland or Walt Disney World. My wife and I are Disney Vacation Club members and also Charter Members of D23.

      1. Since when? It wasn’t there 2 months ago when we went. There’s one to get into DCA, but we didn’t have to go through one to get into DTD.

    1. It will be put in place. It would be pointless to have points of security in one are but not in the other. All points into Downtown Disney will be address.

    2. Guests of the Grand and Paradise Pier still get checked by the checkpoint by World of Disney, which from my understanding isn’t moving.
There is also a checkpoint at the Grand’s entrance into DCA.

    3. I agree with Kris, we were there in June 2016, and there is not a check point between Downtown Disney and the Grand Hotel. Only check point was between the Grand California Hotel and California Adventure Land.

    4. From the California Grand Hotel there will be a checkpoint at whats called the Moon Gate. Located in the hallway between Sephora and Anna & Elsas. There will also be one on the walkway that runs parallel to the tram route that leads from Disneyland Dr. Plus one for castmembers between Lego and the AMC.

  1. Still won’t change the fact that I’m the token white male who always gets pulled aside for the extra check. Guess I look too happy?
